D-Aspartic Acid Calcium Chelate
Benefits, Dosage, & Side Effects
D-Aspartic Acid is one of the few testosterone-boosting supplements that works based on concrete scientific proof. The amino acid is present naturally in the human body (specifically in the testes, pituitary gland, pineal gland and the hypothalamus) and can be consumed in small amounts from certain foods. Supplementing with D-Aspartic Acid in higher doses, however, has been shown to create much more significant results in men.
D-Aspartic Acid levels in the body tend to drop naturally as we age, which in turn leads to lowered testosterone levels. Men whose testosterone levels are deficient often experience many of the following symptoms: fatigue, low energy levels, erectile dysfunction, moodiness, irritability, excess fat, poor muscle strength and low sex drive. Numerous studies have shown the effectiveness of D-Aspartic Acid at increasing free, serum and total testosterone levels, which justifies why the supplement is popularly used by bodybuilders, athletes and older men. D-Aspartic Acid is one of the most well investigated testosterone supplements in the market and its benefits have been life changing for many users.
Users of D-Aspartic Acid have reported having exceptional benefits in both the short and long-term, depending on the dose and frequency.
The first and most obvious benefit of D-Aspartic Acid supplementation is that it supports hormonal production in the body. D-Aspartic Acid has been shown to elevate levels of testosterone, growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). All these hormones are used in the male body to support athletic performance, muscle strength, muscle growth, and sex drive.
A study published on the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition in 2015 showed that administration of D-Aspartic Acid on 24 males in 14 days lead to a significant increase of total and free testosterone . The male participants in the study had at least 2 years worth of experience in resistance training (muscle-building exercises) and still received positive benefits from D-Aspartic Acid supplementation.
For this reason, D-Aspartic Acid can also be useful for men who wish to increase lean muscle growth. By increasing testosterone levels by up to 40%, D-Aspartic Acid can: 1). Provide the primer you need for increased muscle mass – increased energy and strength, 2). Directly stimulate muscle growth and 3). Help maintain existing muscle mass.
An increase of total testosterone levels is also linked to higher sex drive and harder, stronger erections. Many users have noticed that within 2 weeks of supplementing with D-Aspartic Acid, libido levels were significantly boosted and confidence to perform in the bedroom was improved.
How It Works
Fortunately, the way in which D-Aspartic affects hormonal release in the human body has been studied down to its molecular mechanism. A study performed in 2009 and published in the Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology Journal investigated how D-Aspartic Acid leads to an increase in testosterone levels . It was concluded that D-Aspartic Acid induces testosterone production via communication of the pituitary gland and Leydig cells in the testes.
D-Aspartic Acid impacts the hypothalamus, which then releases a set of hormones called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). The pituitary gland discerns this change of hormonal levels and begins synthesizing LH (luteinizing hormone). Once LH is generated, the Leydig cells in the testes get to work and enhance the production of testosterone. In a similar manner, D-Aspartic Acid also leads to heightened levels of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1).
This process is similar if not an exact duplicate of how our bodies naturally produce more testosterone. For this reason, D-Aspartic Acid is considered a “natural testosterone booster”, because it mimics the standard process through which the male body produces testosterone, GH and IGF-1.
If this is your first time using D-Aspartic Acid then you should limit yourself to using 3g a day. The average use for men above the age of 21 is anywhere between 5-10g a day, split into two different doses (one in the morning and another in the evening).
With D-Aspartic Acid, cycling your use is recommended. This means using the supplement for 12-15 days and then going on a break for 12-15 days. Cycling has 2 primary benefits: 1). It prevents your (average) hormonal levels from going haywire and 2). It gives the body enough time to adjust so that you don’t build a tolerance towards the supplement.
It should be noted that the physiological effects of D-Aspartic Acid differ from person to person. In other words, the way by which your personal body chemistry works, processes and reacts to D-Aspartic Acid may be different to others.
Potential Side Effects
D-Aspartic Acid’s mechanism of action follows the body’s natural pathways to testosterone production, so use of this supplement should not lead to detrimental side effects. Many users find that by sticking to the recommended dose and cycling their use of D-Aspartic Acid, they encounter very little to no side effects, even in the long-term. Those who do not respond well to D-Aspartic Acid may encounter:
- Hair Loss
- Increase in estrogen levels (causes excess fat and decreases sex drive)
These side effects are infrequent and should not take place if you discipline your use of D-Aspartic Acid and maintain your health by exercising and sticking to a nutritious diet.
Where to Get It
D-Aspartic Acid can be purchased online or in your local fitness supplement store. It is available in both capsule form and bulk powder form. If you buy it in powder form, then simply mix it with any liquid (preferably water) and take daily. Using D-Aspartic Acid alone comes with many benefits but in our experience the process becomes far more advantageous when pairing D-Aspartic Acid with other testosterone-boosting supplements.
